AMD has expanded its Ryzen 4000 Mobile Series with the introduction of two new high-performance CPUs: the Ryzen 9 4900H and the Ryzen 9 4900HS. These processors, along with the previously announced Ryzen 7 4800H, aim to deliver desktop-level performance in a mobile form factor.

AMD initially unveiled the Ryzen 4000 Mobile Series at CES 2020, providing limited details about the Ryzen 7 4800H. Now, the company has revealed more information about the entire lineup, including the powerful Ryzen 9 4900H and 4900HS.

Targeting High-End Gamers and Content Creators

These new Ryzen 9 processors target demanding users, including gamers and content creators. Both the 4900H and 4900HS boast 8 cores and 16 threads, reaching boost clock speeds of up to 4.4GHz and 4.3GHz, respectively. The 4900HS is designed for thinner and lighter laptops with its lower 35W TDP, while the 4900H offers slightly higher performance with a 45W TDP.

Performance Benchmarks

AMD’s internal testing shows the Ryzen 9 4900HS outperforming the Intel Core i9-9880H in several key areas. These include a 28% advantage in Cinebench R20, a 23% improvement in HandBrake video transcoding, a 56% lead in Blender rendering, and a 32% boost in audio encoding. However, the Intel Core i9-9880H maintained an 8% lead in PCMark 10 DCC, a benchmark measuring overall content creation performance.

Gaming Performance

AMD claims the Ryzen 9 4900HS, paired with an RTX 2060 MaxQ, can easily surpass 60FPS in AAA games. Furthermore, the new Ryzen 9 CPUs support AMD’s SmartShift technology when combined with Radeon RX graphics cards. This technology dynamically shifts power between the CPU and GPU for optimal performance.

Ryzen 7 4800H Performance

AMD also highlighted the Ryzen 7 4800H’s performance, claiming it surpasses the Intel Core i7-9750H by 46% in Cinebench R20 nT and even outperforms the Core i9-9880H by about 11%. In most tests, including content creation and gaming workloads, the Ryzen 7 4800H generally outperforms Intel’s i7-9750H.

Availability

The Ryzen 9 4900HS will debut in the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, a unique laptop featuring an AniMe Matrix LED display on the lid.
