Metal Slug: Awakening, the revival of the classic run ‘n gun franchise, has quickly gained immense popularity, boasting tens of millions of players across nine markets since its launch three months ago. In Vietnam alone, hundreds of thousands of gamers log in daily to experience the action-packed gameplay. Building on this success, publisher VNGGames has announced the first-ever Metal Slug National Championship in Vietnam, marking a significant milestone as the country’s first run ‘n gun esports tournament.

The Metal Slug National Championship will be held offline with two regional qualifiers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, ensuring accessibility for gamers nationwide. The National Finals are scheduled to take place in Hanoi at the end of December.
The tournament will feature the popular 3v3 Mecha Mayhem mode, a thrilling PvP experience that has taken the Metal Slug: Awakening community by storm. In this mode, teams of three compete against each other in randomly matched battles. The objective is to destroy the opposing team’s base within the time limit. If neither base is destroyed, the team with the higher base HP wins.
Mecha Mayhem is praised for its competitive nature, requiring individual skill, teamwork, and strategic thinking. VNGGames representatives highlighted the mode’s ability to accurately assess player skill while providing an engaging spectacle for viewers, making it ideal for esports competition.
