COLORFUL and NVIDIA Open First GPU Museum
COLORFUL, a leading graphics card manufacturer based in China, has partnered with NVIDIA to open the world’s first GPU Museum. Located in COLORFUL’s new headquarters in the Next Generation Industrial Park in Shenzhen, the museum chronicles the evolution of GPUs from their earliest incarnations to the cutting-edge models available today.
The museum takes visitors on a journey back to the 1980s, showcasing the emergence of the first graphics chips. It then progresses through the 1990s, highlighting the introduction of Voodoo graphics cards, which brought 3D acceleration to PCs. These technological advancements paved the way for NVIDIA and other manufacturers to develop the powerful GPUs that drive the industry today.

NVIDIA launched its first product in 1995, based on the NV1 graphics chip. However, it wasn’t until 1999-2000 that NVIDIA introduced its GeForce line, starting with the GeForce 256, widely considered the first modern GPU. These milestones are all documented and displayed within the GPU Museum.
The museum doesn’t just focus on NVIDIA. It also features rare GPUs like the ATi Rage Fury MAXX, which boasted two Rage 128 processing cores. This broad scope offers a comprehensive overview of GPU history, demonstrating the progression of graphics technology.

COLORFUL itself was founded in Shenzhen in 1995 and launched the COLORFUL Voodoo 2 graphics card in 1999, marking the company’s entry into the graphics card market. Since then, COLORFUL has expanded its product portfolio to include motherboards, RAM, and other hardware solutions. The museum serves as a testament to the company’s history and its contributions to the graphics card industry.
