Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Review
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 brings notable improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 5. With a more durable design, better cameras, a larger battery, and potentially the best software optimizations for a flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 bears the hallmarks of a class-leading foldable.
The phone features the same 3.4-inch cover display and 6.7-inch main display as the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but with some enhancements to the cover display’s functionality. The design remains similar, but with color-matched rings around the rear cameras and a satin finish for the frame, adding a premium touch.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and options for 256GB or 512GB of storage. The battery capacity has been increased to 4,000mAh, and a vapor cooling chamber has been added for improved heat dissipation.
Durability has been improved with a stronger Armor Aluminum frame, toughened hinge and edges, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. The camera system has been upgraded with a 50MP main lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, similar to the Galaxy S24 Plus.
Samsung has optimized the software for foldable phones, introducing features like Auto Zoom for automated framing and an improved Camcorder Mode with a thumb-based zoom toggle. Additionally, Galaxy AI features like Interpreter have been optimized for foldable usage.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 represents an iterative but welcome upgrade over its predecessor, offering improved practicality and performance. While it may not warrant a direct generational upgrade for existing Galaxy Z Flip users, it could be an attractive option for those considering their first foldable phone.
