Nintendo Switch: More Models Expected to Extend Console Lifespan
The Nintendo Switch family is rumored to expand beyond the recently released Switch Lite and updated original Switch. This strategy, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal, aims to extend the platform’s lifecycle and maintain sales momentum.
While the Switch Lite is the only new Switch hardware released this year, hints of future models have emerged. Katsuaki Nomura, Vice President of Sharp, seemingly confirmed the display technology slated for upcoming Switch consoles.

Reports indicate that Sharp IGZO display panels, currently used in Sharp’s 8K televisions and Aquos smartphones, could feature in future Switch iterations. This suggests a potential “Switch Pro” model with significantly higher resolution than the current Switch.
This strategy aligns with Nintendo’s robust software lineup. Upcoming titles like Pokemon Sword & Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are expected to drive hardware sales. A more powerful Switch would cater to players seeking enhanced performance for these demanding games. Concurrently, the budget-friendly and portable Switch Lite is poised for strong holiday season sales.
The Switch Lite is currently available for pre-order and launches on September 20th. The updated original Switch model, distinguishable by its red packaging, is already hitting store shelves.
