RTX 4090: The New Flagship GPU
Leading the charge is the RTX 4090. This powerhouse features a staggering 24GB of GDDR6X memory, 16,384 CUDA cores, a base clock speed of 2.23GHz, and a boost clock reaching 2.52GHz. NVIDIA claims performance improvements of 2 to 4 times over the RTX 3090 Ti, while maintaining the same power consumption as the previous generation. A minimum 850W power supply is recommended when paired with a Ryzen 5900X processor.
RTX 4080: Dual Configurations for Diverse Needs
The RTX 4080 will be available in two configurations: 12GB and 16GB of GDDR6X memory. These configurations differ in more than just memory capacity. The 12GB variant packs 7,680 CUDA cores, a 2.31GHz base clock, and a boost clock up to 2.61GHz. The 16GB model boasts 9,728 CUDA cores, a 2.21GHz base clock, and a boost up to 2.51GHz. Power consumption recommendations are 700W for the 12GB model and 750W for the 16GB variant.

DLSS 3 and Enhanced ShadowPlay: Elevating the Gaming Experience
Beyond raw specifications, the RTX 4000 series incorporates new technologies, including DLSS 3 and enhanced ShadowPlay support. DLSS 3 leverages third-generation RT cores, designed for superior ray tracing performance. This allows DLSS 3 to analyze current and previous frames to predict scene changes, resulting in near-doubled frame rates in NVIDIA’s Microsoft Flight Simulator demonstration. DLSS 3 aims to mitigate CPU bottlenecks while boosting frame rates. Furthermore, the upgraded ShadowPlay technology supports 8K HDR recording at 60 FPS using AV1-enabled NVENC encoding, enhancing streaming and recording performance.
