Sony has officially announced the launch window for its highly anticipated PlayStation VR2 headset. First revealed at CES 2022, the next-generation VR system is set to release in “early 2023,” according to recent posts on the official PlayStation Japan Twitter and Instagram accounts. This announcement solidifies the launch timing for the PSVR2, coming nearly two years after the PlayStation 5’s initial release.

The PlayStation VR2 boasts impressive technical specifications, including 4K HDR visuals, 90/120Hz refresh rates, and a 110-degree field of view. Foveated rendering enhances visual fidelity by prioritizing the areas where the user is focusing, while maintaining smooth performance on the PlayStation 5.
A notable improvement over its predecessor is the simplified connectivity. The PSVR2 requires only a single USB-C cable to connect to the PS5, eliminating the need for external cameras for motion tracking. Instead, integrated cameras on the headset track movement, similar to the Oculus Quest 2. The “See-Through View” feature allows users to view their surroundings without removing the headset.
