Seagate Unleashes Massive 18TB HDD and 4TB SSD for IronWolf NAS Series
Seagate recently bolstered its flagship network-attached storage (NAS) lineup, the IronWolf NAS series, with the introduction of two colossal capacity options: an 18TB HDD and a 4TB SSD. These new drives aim to provide NAS users with increased storage solutions for demanding workloads.
The 18TB HDD, part of the IronWolf Pro family, utilizes conventional magnetic recording technology and represents Seagate’s highest-capacity NAS drive to date, surpassing the previous 16TB IronWolf Pro model designed for 24-bay NAS systems.
This 7200 RPM hard drive incorporates nine platters sealed in a helium-filled environment, enabling higher storage density and improved power efficiency. It boasts a robust workload rating of 300TB per year, a 256MB cache, and a 5-year warranty, ensuring 24/7 reliability with a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 1.2 million hours.

Despite the significant capacity increase, power consumption remains remarkably low at just 8W, a slight increase from the 7.6W of the 16TB predecessor. This balance of performance and efficiency makes it an ideal choice for power-conscious NAS users.
On the solid-state front, Seagate introduced the 2.5-inch IronWolf NAS 4TB SSD in two variants: the IronWolf 125 and the IronWolf Pro 125. The Pro version boasts an MTBF of 2 million hours, while the standard version offers 1.5 million hours.
Both SSD models feature power loss protection, safeguarding data against unexpected power outages, a crucial feature for NAS environments. This ensures data integrity and minimizes the risk of data corruption.

These new additions to the IronWolf NAS family provide a wider range of storage options for NAS users, catering to both high-capacity and high-performance needs. Whether it’s large media libraries, demanding business applications, or intensive data archiving, these drives offer the reliability and performance expected from Seagate’s IronWolf series. With the increasing demand for robust and scalable NAS solutions, the 18TB HDD and 4TB SSD strengthen Seagate’s position in the NAS storage market.
